This depends on how quickly we raise funds!
We would like to estimate sometime in Spring of 2027, but at the end of the day we are at the mercy of needing money and being a volunteer-run organization!
We are currently in the beginning stages of Incorporation. Our first board is forming as of May 2026, and from the time the original Steering Committee is decided, we will begin the decision making process of By-Laws and Membership. We estimate this process to be complete by the end of Summer 2026, if not sooner.
After our Articles of Incorporation are accepted with the State government, we can file for our EIN and incorporation with the Federal government. At this point, we are able to buy a way larger variety of products, start filing taxes (and importantly, writing off losses, which all grocers inevitably have), get insurance, and open a cooperative bank account.
This can happen in quick succession, and should also be done by the end of Summer 2026.
When we are close to reaching our fundraising goal, we will officially be ready to start shopping for a storefront and the hiring process for managers. From the time we hit ~50k, we will start that search process and anticipate 4-6 months until opening day.
